Sales of Washington State wines have increased 9.1% by value over the past year. This data is from a recent Nielson report for the period of July 2008 to July 2009. The 9.1% growth figure is twice as much as total wine sales, which say a 4.7% increase by value. Sales by volume is also up by 6.4% which is almost 3 times as large as overall wine sales by volume which grew by 2.4% over the same time period. Washington State contains over 32,000 acres of planted grapes with varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Reisling, Merlot, and Syrah leading the way as far as total acres planted.
